DENTAL CROWNS

Dental Crown in an Hour (CEREC) in Calgary!

When you have cracked, damaged, or decayed teeth, you can restore it with the help of dental crowns. Calgary patients can also use crowns to support large fillings and dental bridges as well as cover dental implants. There are many types of dental crowns out there including those made of metal, resin, or porcelain. For all patients requiring dental crowns in Calgary, Abougoush Family Dental Care offers CEREC as an option. CEREC – also known as Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics – is a modern technological advancement that allows dentists to design and fabricate a dental crown, veneer, inlay, or onlay in an hour, without the need for dental impressions or the use of an outside laboratory.

What Are Dental Crowns?

How Are CEREC Dental Crowns Placed?

First the dentist prepares your tooth for the dental crown, cleaning and often filing down the tooth if needed. Once the preparations are complete, our in-house CEREC machine in Calgary takes a digital image of your tooth. We use this image as reference for designing your dental crown. When the design is completed, the data is sent to an internal milling chamber where the crown is immediately crafted from solid ceramic block. This process is the same for other dental restorations like veneers, inlays, and onlays. Additionally, your dental restoration will almost immediately have functionality very similar to a natural tooth, and many patients are able to enjoy their favourite snacks right after walking out of our clinic.

Why Are CEREC Restorations Growing in Popularity in Calgary?

There are three main advantages:

  1. These restorations are made from ceramic – a natural substance that is particularly compatible with the body. As CEREC restorations have no metal, as with traditional PFM (porcelain-fused-to-metal) crowns, they have nice translucency and colour – very similar to natural teeth.

  2. CEREC restorations are durable – for example, when undergoing the daily grinding of food. They are not affected by hot or cold, and the ceramic is so smooth that bacteria have a difficult time sticking.

  3. Milling of the dental crown is performed immediately by the CEREC machine, instead of being sent to a local laboratory. This means that your entire restoration can be prepared, manufactured, and cemented during the same appointment. Our patients avoid having to be frozen twice, and do not experience any of the discomfort often associated with temporary restorations.

Are CEREC Dental Crowns Right for Everyone?

While there are several benefits to CEREC procedures, it is important to note that they may not be suited for all cases. Depending on the state and location of the teeth to be restored, materials other than ceramic may be more appropriate. Contact the licensed dentists at Abougoush Family Dental Care in Calgary to schedule your next teeth cleaning and exam, and we’ll be sure to recommend the procedure that best suits your circumstance.
